BYSA Advisory Council

The BYSA Advisory Council is a group of community leaders who believe in the impact youth sports can have on children, families, and our community. They bring a wealth of experience, local connections, and a shared commitment to helping BYSA grow in a thoughtful and sustainable way.

Through their guidance, support, and advocacy, our Council helps open doors, build partnerships, and create opportunities that allow more young athletes to participate, develop confidence, learn important life skills, and discover the value of being part of a team—all while helping build a stronger, more connected community.

Coach Jackie Sherrill

President

Coach Jackie Sherrill brings a remarkable career of championship-level football leadership and a lifelong commitment to developing young athletes. A former player for Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant at Alabama and member of two national championship teams, Sherrill went on to become a successful Division I head coach at Washington State, Pittsburgh, Texas A&M, and Mississippi State, compiling a career record of 180–120–4. His teams captured three Southwest Conference championships at Texas A&M, an SEC Western Division championship at Mississippi State, and he was named Walter Camp National Coach of the Year in 1981.

A member of the Texas Sports Hall of Fame, Texas A&M Athletics Hall of Fame, Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame, Alabama Sports Hall of Fame, Pittsburgh Athletics Hall of Fame, and Cotton Bowl Hall of Fame—Coach Sherrill now brings that experience, energy, and passion for mentorship to BYSA, helping create meaningful opportunities for the next generation of young athletes.

  • Kean Register

    VICE PRESIDENT

    Kean Register brings more than 25 years of public service with the City of Bryan, including serving as City Manager from 2010 until his retirement in 2025. During his tenure, he guided the city through significant growth, economic development and major community projects while strengthening its financial foundation. His extensive experience in city management, public utilities and community leadership provides valuable insight into building strong partnerships and creating opportunities for the Bryan community.

  • Cathy Capps

    OFFICER

    With 26 years of service to Texas A&M Athletics as an Assistant Athletic Director, Cathy brings extensive experience building relationships with current and former student-athletes. A 2022 Texas A&M Athletic Hall of Honor inductee, she continues to serve the community following her retirement from Texas A&M Athletics in a special projects and strategic partnerships role with the City of Bryan. Cathy also serves on the Von’s Vision Executive Board and the Texas A&M Coaching Academy Board of Advisors.

  • Bobby Gutierrez

    OFFICER

    A longtime Bryan business owner and community leader, Bobby has served as Mayor of Bryan since 2022, following his service as a District 3 councilmember and Planning and Zoning Commission chair. As owner of House of Tires, La Pistola Cattle Co. and president of Gutierrez Ventures, he brings a strong business background and extensive experience in economic development and community partnerships. He is deeply committed to Bryan andcontinues to give back through numerous community and regional organizations.

  • Sally Jurica

    OFFICER

    Sally Jurica brings a well established background in municipal government and community service through her long-standing career with the City of Bryan. As Office Manager and Executive Assistant to the City Manager, she provides valuable organizational and administrative leadership while supporting the City Manager’s Office and its community-focused initiatives. A Leadership Brazos Alumni Award recipient, Sally is recognized for her commitment to public service and her contributions to the Bryan community.

  • Phil Bennett

    ADVISORY COUNCIL MEMBER

    A veteran college football coach with more than four decades of coaching experience, Phil built an accomplished career at the highest levels of the game. A 1978 Texas A&M graduate and former All-Southwest Conference defensive end, he has served as a defensive coordinator at Texas A&M, LSU, Kansas State, Pittsburgh, Baylor and other programs, as well as head coach at SMU. Bennett brings a wealth of coaching knowledge, mentorship and experience working with student-athletes, making him a valuable voice in developing the next generation of young leaders.

  • Rod Bernstine

    ADVISORY COUNCIL MEMBER

    A Bryan native and former Texas A&M All-American Tight End and Wide Receiver, Rod was selected in the first round of the NFL Draft and enjoyed a nine-season professional career with the San Diego Chargers and Denver Broncos. He was inducted into the Texas A&M Hall of Fame in 2025. Having grown up in Bryan, Rod has a deep personal connection to the community and is committed to the Bryan Youth Sports Association and creating opportunities for the next generation of young athletes.

  • Joel Bryan

    ADVISORY COUNCIL MEMBER

    Joel is a Bryan native and former University of Kentucky football player who went on to build a successful career as the owner of Bryan Creative Group, a creative marketing and advertising firm. He serves as President of the Bryan ISD Board of Trustees, providing leadership focused on students, educators and the continued growth of the district. His background in athletics, business and community service reflects a genuine commitment to investing in local youth and helping build a stronger Bryan community.

  • Jamie Cox

    ADVISORY COUNCIL MEMBER

    Jamie is a sports tourism and events professional with a strong track record of developing successful sports venues and attracting high-profile competitions. As General Manager of Legends Event Center, he oversees one of the region’s premier indoor sports and events facilities, building partnerships and bringing local, regional and national events to Bryan. His previous leadership roles at the Publix Sports Park in Panama City Beach and Hoover Metropolitan Complex helped generate significant economic impact and establish both facilities as recognized destinations for sports tourism.

  • Kyle DeWitt

    ADVISORY COUNCIL MEMBER

    Kyle is a longtime Bryan–College Station business and community leader who serves as Senior Regional Manager for Integ, a full-service commercial printing and communications company. A Texas A&M graduate, Kyle has also served in leadership roles with Twin City Mission, Brazos County Appraisal District and Bryan–College Station Chamber of Commerce. He brings extensive experience in business development, communications and community leadership, along with a strong commitment to the Brazos Valley.

  • Matthew Doss

    ADVISORY COUNCIL MEMBER

    Matt is a Bryan native, Texas A&M graduate and accomplished attorney with a practice focused on civil litigation, real estate, personal injury and estate matters. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, Brazos County Bar Association, Texas Aggie Bar Association and Texas Young Lawyers Association, and serves as a board member of the Boys & Girls Club of the Brazos Valley. His professional and community involvement reflect a strong commitment to serving the Brazos Valley.

  • George Georgiades

    ADVISORY COUNCIL MEMBER

    George is the Founder and CEO of G Squared Private Wealth, bringing more than three decades of experience in financial services. He has been recognized multiple times on the Forbes Best-in-State Wealth Advisors list. A longtime community leader, George has served on the boards of the 12th Man Foundation, Allen Academy, the 100 Club and Parsons Mounted Cavalry Association, and has been a director of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and past president of the Houston Polo Club and Brazos County Go Texan Association.

  • Richie Hale

    ADVISORY COUNCIL MEMBER

    Richie Hale has built a distinguished career with C.C. Creations, where he has served in corporate sales since 1994. A Texas A&M graduate, Richie brings more than three decades of experience building relationships with businesses, organizations and community partners throughout the Brazos Valley. His longstanding commitment to the community and extensive business relationships make him a valuable addition to the Bryan Youth Sports Association Advisory Council.

  • Karl Kapchinski

    ADVISORY COUNCIL MEMBER

    Karl is a longtime sports medicine professional whose career includes more than three decades of service to student-athletes at Texas A&M as Director of Athletic Training, earning NCAA Division I Athletic Trainer of the Year in 2005 and helping lead Texas A&M’s staff to Big 12 Athletic Training Staff of the Year honors in 1999 and 2009. Today, Karl serves as Head Athletic Trainer at A&M Consolidated High School, bringing a lifetime of expertise and commitment to athlete health and development.

  • Georgette Kibbe-Herring

    ADVISORY COUNCIL MEMBER

    Georgette is an experienced nurse practitioner, public health professional and community leader with nearly three decades of commitment to the community. She currently serves as Family Nurse Practitioner Manager with the Brazos County Health District, where she has led initiatives expanding health services, HIV and Hepatitis C care, behavioral health services and a community mental health task force bringing together more than 30 organizations. With advanced degrees in nursing and public administration, along with a Post-Master’s Certificate in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing, Georgette brings a multidisciplinary perspective to improving healthcare access

  • Kenny Lawson

    ADVISORY COUNCIL MEMBER

    Kenny is a respected entrepreneur and community leader who has built C.C. Creations from a small Bryan business into a nationally recognized company. As owner and CEO, he has guided the company’s growth while remaining deeply invested in the Bryan-College Station community. Kenny was named Bryan-College Station Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year in 2020 and has provided leadership through the Blinn College Bryan Campus Advisory Committee, where he has championed education, youth and opportunities for the next generation.

  • Prentiss Madison

    ADVISORY COUNCIL MEMBER

    Prentiss is a lifelong Bryan resident, successful business leader and dedicated community advocate. As GM of Madison Metals, he has built a strong career in business while contributing nearly two decades of public service through the Bryan Parks and Recreation Board, Zoning Board of Adjustments, Planning and Zoning Commission and six years on the Bryan City Council. His community leadership has been recognized through the Bryan-College Station Chamber of Commerce’s Community Impact Awards, and his longstanding involvement with organizations such as the Boys & Girls Club reflects his commitment to supporting local youth.

  • Cal McNeill

    ADVISORY COUNCIL MEMBER

    Cal is a longtime Bryan-College Station business and community leader who serves as Executive Vice President with First Financial Bank. Cal has built an extensive career in banking while remaining deeply involved in the community, including serving as President of the Brazos County A&M Club and on the Board of Directors for Bryan-College Station Sister Cities. He was also honored as the Bryan-College Station Chamber of Commerce’s Volunteer of the Year in 2006, reflecting his longstanding commitment to community service.

  • Ryan O'Bryant

    ADVISORY COUNCIL MEMBER

    A former Texas A&M football player and recipient of the prestigious Aggie Heart Award, Ryan exemplifies the leadership and character he now works to instill in young athletes. A three year walk-on who earned a scholarship as a senior and was voted team captain, he went on to earn a master’s degree in Sport Management from the University of San Francisco and brings more than 15 years of athlete development experience, including six years at Bryan Rudder High School leading the speed and agility program and serving as co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. Today, Ryan owns Jireh Fitness and serves as a realtor with Bock Realty Group, where he remains deeply connected to the community and committed to creating opportunities for young athletes to grow, compete, and build a strong foundation for the future.

  • J.J. Ramirez

    ADVISORY COUNCIL MEMBER

    J.J. is the Founder and Director of Save Our Streets (S.O.S.) Ministries, a Bryan-based nonprofit he founded in 1993 with a mission to “Rescue, Restore and Release” individuals and families impacted by poverty, addiction and violence. Drawing from his own journey of transformation, J.J. has dedicated more than three decades to reaching underserved children, teens and adults through mentorship, discipleship, vocational training and community outreach.

  • Jason Rollo

    ADVISORY COUNCIL MEMBER

    Jason is a insurance executive and community leader who founded Rollo Insurance in 2000 and now serves as its CEO. A graduate of Sam Houston State University, Jason has been recognized as Best Insurance Agent in the Brazos Valley in both 2017 and 2018, and was named among the area’s top agents for several consecutive years. Under his leadership, Rollo Insurance has grown from a single agency into a multi-state organization with more than 60 locations, while maintaining a strong commitment to community involvement, servant leadership and supporting local organizations and youth.

  • Dereck Rush

    ADVISORY COUNCIL MEMBER

    Dereck is the Executive Director of Athletics for Bryan ISD, bringing a distinguished background as a coach, athletic administrator and former collegiate athlete. A two-time state champion in high school and All-SEC linebacker at Mississippi State University, he went on to a successful coaching career, leading John Tyler High School to five district championships and multiple playoff runs. A Certified Athletic Administrator and recipient of multiple Coach of the Year honors, Dereck is passionate about developing student-athletes through athletics, leadership and character.

  • Braxton Sherrill

    ADVISORY COUNCIL MEMBER

    Braxton is a Bryan-College Station business leader, Texas A&M graduate and founder and principal of Texas Best Home Loans. With a strong background in real estate finance and a longstanding connection to the community, he brings valuable business experience and a genuine commitment to helping families and individuals achieve their goals. As part of the Sherrill family’s deep ties to Bryan and youth athletics, Braxton is passionate about supporting BYSA and creating meaningful opportunities for local young athletes.

  • Marca Ewers-Shurtleff

    ADVISORY COUNCIL MEMBER

    Marca is an attorney, business owner and community leader who owns and manages Tx Ag Law in downtown Bryan and serves on the Bryan City Council. A graduate of Texas A&M University and South Texas College of Law, she was recognized with the CALI Award for Legislative Writing and has been selected to the Texas Super Lawyers Rising Stars list from 2019–2025. Deeply involved in the community, Marca has served on the Bryan Business Council, Planning and Zoning Commission and Big Brothers Big Sisters Advisory Board. She was also honored with the 2024 Community Spotlight Award by the American Business Women’s Association for her professional and community contributions.

  • Melvin Smith

    ADVISORY COUNCIL MEMBER

    Melvin is a veteran football coach with more than three decades of experience at the collegiate level, including coaching positions at Texas A&M, Mississippi State, Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss and Delta State. During his career, he helped lead Auburn to the 2013 SEC Championship and BCS Championship Game, while mentoring numerous All-SEC players, including 2012 Jim Thorpe Award winner Jonathan Banks at Mississippi State. A respected defensive backs coach and recruiter, Melvin brings a wealth of experience in developing young athletes both on and off the field.

  • Paul Torres

    ADVISORY COUNCIL MEMBER

    Paul is a dedicated community leader and member of the Bryan City Council, representing Single Member District 1 since 2022. A 2002 Texas A&M graduate, he has served the community through the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, Building and Standards Commission and Planning and Zoning Commission prior to joining City Council. Paul is also an active member of the Hispanic Forum of Bryan-College Station and brings a strong commitment to community involvement, thoughtful growth and creating a vibrant future for Bryan’s families and young people.
